Privacy policy
Last updated October 19, 2026. In short: your recordings stay on your device and we collect nothing, unless you subscribe to Ditto Pro and turn on a cloud feature. This page says exactly what that sends.
Who we are
Ditto is made by Toasty. Contact: support@useditto.dev.
What stays on your device
Ditto stores your recordings, transcripts, notes, bookmarks, speaker names and voice profiles in the app’s storage on your iPhone or iPad. By default, transcription, speaker detection, note writing and search run on the device, using Apple’s speech recognition, Apple Intelligence and open models that run locally. We don’t receive any of it. Ditto has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no trackers.
Voice profiles are numeric fingerprints that Ditto uses to recognize a person you have named. They are stored only on your device and are never sent, exported or synced, including when you use Ditto Pro. You can remove each one in Settings → Voices (“Forget This Voice”).
Ditto Pro (optional cloud features)
Ditto Pro is a subscription that adds cloud notes and Ask; Ditto Pro + Cloud also adds cloud transcription. Nothing is sent unless you subscribe and choose a cloud option in Settings. When you do:
| Feature | What is sent | Who processes it |
|---|---|---|
| Cloud transcription | The recording’s audio | Our server, then our speech-to-text provider |
| Cloud notes, Ask and speaker name suggestions | The transcript text (with the speaker names you set), and your question for Ask | Our server, then our language-model provider |
| Checking your subscription | The App Store transaction, which identifies the purchase but not you | Our server, then Apple |
- Our server (a Cloudflare Worker) passes your audio and text to the provider and returns the result. It does not store audio, transcripts, notes or questions.
- Our speech-to-text provider transcribes the audio and returns the words; speakers are then found on your device. Under our agreement with it, your audio and transcripts are never used to train models. The audio and transcript are deleted there as soon as the transcript reaches your device. If it never does (you delete the app mid-job, say), they are deleted after 24 hours.
- Our language-model provider runs the model that writes notes and answers. We reach it through a routing service that sends each request only to providers that keep no data. Neither keeps prompts or outputs, and neither uses them to train models.
- What we keep: the number of cloud minutes used this month and the amount of language-model text used today (a count, not the text), stored under the App Store’s anonymous transaction ID so we can apply the monthly allowance and the daily fair-use limit. They are reset every month and every day. While a cloud transcription runs, we also keep its job reference (no audio or text) until the result reaches your device, or for a day at most.
- Cloudflare, which hosts our server, sees your IP address with each request, uses it to limit abuse, and keeps request logs (no audio or text) for a few days.
Payment is handled by Apple. We never receive your name, email address, Apple ID or payment details.
What the app downloads
Ditto downloads language packs from Apple and, if you choose the higher-accuracy engine or speaker model, model files from Hugging Face. These downloads contain no information about you or your recordings. Their hosts can see your IP address, as with any download.
Permissions
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| Microphone | To record meetings. |
| Speech recognition | To transcribe on this device with Apple’s engine. |
| Calendar (optional) | To name a recording after the event happening now and suggest attendee names. Event titles and attendee names are read and kept on the device only. |
| Reminders (optional) | To add action items you choose to Reminders. |
| Face ID (optional) | To lock the app. Ditto never sees your biometric data; iOS only confirms it matched. |
| A folder you pick (optional) | To write Markdown notes there. If the folder is in iCloud Drive or another provider, that provider handles the files under its own terms. |
Sharing
Apart from the cloud features above, Ditto only sends your content somewhere when you tell it to: sharing or exporting a recording, adding to Reminders, or writing to a folder you chose. We don’t sell or share personal information, and we don’t use your content for advertising or to train models.
Backups and deletion
Your device’s own backup (iCloud or a computer) may include Ditto’s data, under Apple’s terms and your backup settings. Deleting a recording in Ditto removes its audio and transcript. Deleting the app removes everything it stored on the device. Since our server keeps no content, there is nothing of yours to delete there; to have your minute count removed, email us.
Children
Ditto is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or CCPA), you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal data about you. Because almost everything stays on your device, you can do most of this in the app. For anything else, email us and we will answer within 30 days.
Changes
If Ditto starts sending anything new off the device, this policy will be updated first, the app will ask before using it, and the App Store privacy details will change to match. The date at the top shows the last change.
